Valuable Time-Management Tips

♦  Schedule your personal errands at the beginning or end of the day. Make lunch dates only within a few blocks of your office.
♦  Always ask for a day to respond when a request is made of your time, such as a speaking engagement. Figure out whether it fits into your work and personal goals.
♦  Stop spending time to save money. Instead, spend money to save time. Don't drive across town to save a few cents on a grocery item. It's not worth your time. Hire someone for chores you're not fond of doing.
♦  Leave voice-mail messages late at night, to convey information or confirm an appointment. This way you will avoid getting caught in a long chat.
♦  Pencil in "thinking time" every day. This is time to reflect on ways to provide greater customer service, get noticed by the boss, get more customers, or develop a neglected segment of your business. — World's Largest Depository Of Barter Information

Why Are Female Executives So Prone To Stress Disorders?

Anne Devereux-Mills, Chief Strategy Officer of Lantern, and previously Stanford's Executive Director of Healthy Body Image Programs, spent 25-years observing women in a corporate environment. What she noticed was that the very internal monologue that drives successful women to the top of their fields also makes them susceptible to stress and anxiety-related disorders.

In fact, according to a new study by Lantern, women are 11% more stressed and 16% more anxious than their male counterparts, resulting from these key drivers:

The desire to be perfect and fear of falling short
The strong-will required to stand up for their ideas can also lead to an unforgiving view of themselves
The belief that if they are not constantly marking off tasks they will fall behind

To combat these stress drivers, Devereux-Mills can discuss three important stress-relief tactics designed with high-achieving women in mind:

1. Box it up
To manage conflicting responsibilities, visualize "boxes" where you can put each obligation when you’re not actively engaged with it.  Avoid thinking about something while it is in a mental box.

2. Set values and stick to them
Decide what's important to you and prioritize your time.  Draw firm lines about how much time you spend in each area of your life and don’t start bending them to benefit your career.

3. Create "you" rituals
Experiment with meditative activities (like working out or taking a bath) and turn the best ones for you into daily rituals.  Give your brain a chance to quiet down as you begin and end a busy day.

These practices are the foundation of the approach utilized at Lantern, where team members perform daily healing exercises as part of a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy method — a type of therapy that examines self-destructive thinking patterns.

Common Hassles Can Get You Down

Studies by psychologists show that the ordinary hassles (those trifling irritations people have to endure), cause psychological psychosomatic symptoms — depression, anger, low morale, stomachache, low energy, and fatigue.
What can you do to overcome hassles? Be prepared to make a few changes and learn to live with less perfection ... since there isn't enough time, energy, or money for most of us to have it all. And give yourself strokes.
Live in the moment and enjoy the everyday positive experiences you have — like completing a task, eating out, getting along with a friend or colleague, or taking a week-end jaunt to a favorite destination. All of these experiences will make you feel good, and can help offset the ill effects of the hassles.
Seven most prevalent hassles:
Concerns about weight
Interior home maintenance
Too many things to do
Misplacing or losing things
Yard work or outside home maintenance
Property investment or taxes
→ Physical appearance
Editor's note: To enhance your mental and physical health, and ultimately the fiscal health of your company, why not contact your trade exchange and schedule a therapeutic weekend getaway?
