Kyoto Treaty Suggests Barter
As Way To Stem Pollution
The
Kyoto Treaty came into being in February 2005. It is seen as
a way for many of the worlds nations to stem the increase
of CO2 emissions, protect the worlds ecosystems, and
upgrade energy efficiency in a variety of areas.
The
key to the Treaty is based on tradable permits, issued
globally, to emit a total fixed amount of CO2. A country
cannot emit more CO2 than it has permits for, or it faces a
stiff penalty. Permits can be bought and sold or traded.
