Small Business Marketing Expenditures

A FedEx National Small Business Survey indicates where advertising and marketing dollars are being spent, and the percentage of small businesses doing so:

         Improving online presence (46%)

         Printed materials, newsletters, and direct mail (44%)

         Brochures (43%)

         Yellow pages listings (39%)

         Fliers, signs, banners, and posters (37%)

         Social networking sites (36%)

         Newspaper advertisements (32%)

Last year 34% of small business owners spent less on marketing and advertising, and 1/3 of those folks said that decision had a negative or extremely negative impact on their businesses.
