Amsterdam Barters
Beer To Street Cleaners
Heres a new twist we
havent seen before. In Amsterdam city officials are working
with alcoholics under a special program (devised to keep
them occupied and away from disruptive fighting and
noise-making), wherein they clean streets and city parks. In
exchange for a days work, they receive 10 euros (around
US$13), a half-packet of rolling tobacco as well as five
cans of beer two to start the day, two at lunch and one
after work.

her personal mission is raising the profile of the barter
community, as well as pointing out the importance of todays

AMA Says Aspirin At
Night Is Best
The American Medical
Association says the secret to lowering your heart attack
risk is to take a low-dose aspirin before going to bed at
night, as opposed to taking one in the morning.
Note: According to
the Mayo Clinic you should take a daily aspirin only if your
doctor recommends that you do so. You should never begin
daily aspirin therapy on your own.

members-only club offers entrepreneurs access to private
pools, lounges, and meeting rooms at hotels around the
country as a place to work. The company expects to open up
14 markets next year. (It's expanding on Starbucks' stores
being used as a popular workspace!)

How To Keep
More Cash
The most
valuable commodity in the marketplace is cash. Because its liquid
and universally accepted, one can virtually acquire anything the
market has to offer with it. The other side of the coin, however, is
that we can rarely get enough of it to either accomplish all of our
goals or to satisfy all our aspirations.
Thats why
business owners are increasingly utilizing another form of wealth
the power of reciprocity. In the years ahead we will continue to see
the growth of barter, as well as the evolvement of a tighter
relationship between the buyer and vendor/supplier. It will be more
reciprocal in nature, not only because its good business, but also
competition will demand it.
In other words,
when you make a purchase from someone, shouldnt they in turn buy
from you? If not directly, then indirectly by having them take
payment in the form of trade dollars, which they can use through
your trade exchange.
Business done
in this manner is win-win where both parties benefit, rather than
that of a single party benefiting under the typical sales scenario.

Theres More
Than One Type Of Boredom
The journal
Motivation and Emotion says there are five types of boredom,
varying from a calm and pleasant experience to something more like
depression. And boredom is the most common human emotion.
Heres a quick
look at the five types of boredom:
Indifferent boredom:
This is
considered a pleasant form of boredom. Its like zoning out on the
couch in front of a marathon of trashy reality TV shows.
Calibrating boredom:
Its like
daydreaming. Letting your thoughts wander, or youre open to new
ideas but dont feel any motivation to actually get up and do
something.
Searching boredom:
Ever responded
to the question why did you do it? with because I was bored?
Then you have probably experienced searching boredom. People who
experience searching boredom are highly motivated to find a more
interesting activity. And it can lead to innocuous behavior like
texting a friend or may even prompt violent or risky actions. It can
also result in highly creative and positive actions.
Reactant boredom:
Trapped in a
boring lecture or a never-ending meeting? When you cant change your
circumstances by getting up and leaving your boredom may be
accompanied by restlessness and aggression, along with the desire to
do something else.
Apathetic boredom:
This a very
unpleasant form of boredom, accompanied by a lack of motivation. It
seems to be similar to depression, and it may have more negative
consequences than the aforementioned other types. Apathetic boredom
can be assumed to be detrimental for personal psychological health.
