Incorporate Barter Purchases This
Holiday
It's time to
organize your barter-spending list! As this holiday season is
expected to be especially hectic, take action now to cement your
barter spending. The following suggestions are intended to help make
your holidays more enjoyable — and a little less stressful.
-
Check with your trade broker before you make a single cash
purchase this holiday season. Remember, inventories at your trade
exchange are continually changing and growing.
-
Looking to
put together a company party this year? Call your trade exchange
broker ASAP.
-
Your next call may be to one of the printers
within the exchange to get your holiday invitations printed.
-
Maybe you'll want special banners for the office party.
-
Also ask about available entertainment — musicians or a disc jockey
make each event a little livelier and more fun.
-
Other
considerations include catering needs, balloons, flowers, a
photographer, and a limo for invited VIPs.
-
When looking to
provide personal gifts, you'll want to ask about jewelry, a weekend
getaway, a bed & breakfast, or possibly a health club membership.
-
Don't forget gift certificates that cover the gamut from
restaurants and selected merchandise to special events.
-
Make sure to visit the trade exchange's Holiday Faire or Expo to
view the wide variety of available merchandise.
-
Finally,
consider your own special needs around this hectic time of the year.
Set some time aside to get a tan, or visit a beauty salon for a
hairstyle and manicure — yes, men too! And remember to enjoy this
festive time of the year.

Your Reliance On Typical
Assumptions Hurts Business
We all have false assumptions. Even if we don't realize it, they
exist. For instance consider these typical assumptions:
"Advertising doesn't work, it's a waste of money" "If our sales
staff would just make one more call a day, everything would be
great." "Nobody asks for the order anymore … that's the
problem." "The only thing our customers care about is a low
price. Nothing else matters." "Everybody knows us." "We are
the best!" "We're the oldest." "The current downturn in our
business is only temporary. We'll come out just fine."
Without even realizing it, businesses base their plans and programs
on assumptions such as these. But embracing such ideas can
unfortunately keep companies from expanding their vision, attracting
creative employees, and succeeding in their quest to gain new
customers. Often, rather than testing an accepted premise or
adopting a new strategy, owners will ignore the all-too-obvious fact
that their course is heading straight for trouble. Yet only by
challenging all assumptions, can a company literally breathe new
life into its operations. The issue is not just staying in
business. What's really at stake is finding ways to open new
markets, and becoming the company of choice in your field. The job
is not an easy one, because it often demands dramatic changes in the
way we approach doing business.
In the final analysis, the
determining factor for success is a state of mind that freely
welcomes new possibilities.

Ten Words Never To Be Used In
Customer Service
• No.
Customers came to you to solve their problem. Saying "no" is the
same as sending them elsewhere. Better: Yes. •
Can’t. Worse than "no." It implies you
COULD do something, but you're unable to. Better: Can. •
Impossible. The same as "no" with an
exclamation point. There is always a solution. Better: Here's
how we can help… • Why?
Why questions carry a suspicious tone and do nothing to
focus on the present. Better: Help me understand... •
What? Makes customers repeat themselves, and in worst case your
tone can imply you doubt them. Better: Could you please repeat
that? • Policy. Customers
see "policy" as a dodge. Better: Our mission is... •
Listen! Interrupting a customer is NOT an effective way to get
them to listen to you. Better: I understand. •
Wait. Who wants to wait…for anything? Better: Let's move
forward… •
Wrong. Blame
never leads to solutions. Better: Our solution is… •
Should've. It's always too late to "should've." Had they known
they should've, then they would've. Deal with the present.
Better: Here's what can be done now…
