Jack Schacht Elected To Barter Hall
Of Fame
The International Reciprocal Trade Association’s (IRTA) Barter
Hall of Fame Committee is pleased to announce that former Illinois
Trade Association (ITA) founder and CEO, Jack Schacht, has been
elected to receive the 2016 Barter Hall of Fame Award at IRTA's 37th
Annual International Convention at the Riviera Maya Hard Rock
Hotel. Schacht has over 40 years of barter, marketing,
management and business leadership experience. He started ITA in
1984 and quickly grew the company into largest commercial barter
exchange in the U.S. by 2006, when it was sold to IMS. Jack served
as President of the National Association of Trade Exchanges (NATE),
was a member of the board for fifteen years and received multiple
outstanding service awards. "I am honored to be elected to
the Barter Hall of Fame by so many of my friends and colleagues.
Their recognition of me is a testament that the barter industry is
at its best when we work together as one," said Jack Schacht after
hearing of his 2016 award. He also was featured in INC
Magazine and Forbes Magazine: "When Money Isn’t
Enough." Schacht currently is the CEO of My College Planning Team,
which offers creative solutions to help middle-income families
afford college for their children.
NOTE: The Hall of Fame Committee
voting process ended in a tie this year for the first time in its
history. All committee members voted, and Jack Schacht and Annette
Riggs received equal votes. Consequently, the committee has elected
two new members to the Hall of Fame this year. However,
Annette has graciously offered to postpone her induction until
IRTA's 2017 convention.

The Key To Future Prosperity Is
Local Community Interaction
Thomas H. Greco Jr., author of Money & Debt, A Solution To
The Global Crisis, stresses that the world has changed and
local community interaction is the key to future prosperity in
today’s unraveling economy. He says we’re now in the early
stages of "the great unraveling." And the means to restoring
resilience to our communities is taking action. There's a need to
share, cooperate, and organize as never before — spend locally, save
locally, and invest locally. Greco, who has been a keynote
speaker at an International Reciprocal Trade Association annual
convention, proposes we need to apply our dollar resources to
projects that:
- Make the local community more
self-reliant.
- Provide greater local security in
food, energy, housing, water and other necessities of
life.
- Improve the overall quality of life.
- Protect our savings against inflation of the dollar.
He also
articulated that we must reduce our dependence upon banks and
conventional money, by organizing private exchange systems. Systems
that can be networked together to provide an interest-free and
inflation-free means of payment, while also making sure credit is
reliably available to local productive enterprises. (In his
book, Money & Debt, Greco pointed out that the compound growth of
debt would eventually exceed the capacity of the real economy to
bear that debt.)

Barter Partnership-Marketing
Increases Your Payoff
One of the ways to expand your marketing efforts is by contacting
and partnering with other members within your trade exchange. Look
for those whom you've met and created a rapport with (at mixers or
trade fairs) as well as those offering complementary but
non-competitive products or services. If you need some help, give a
call to your trade broker for possible introductions. For
example, if you're selling nutritional supplements, you could join
forces with the local fitness center wherein you'd display each
other's products or services in your respective businesses. When
creating a promotion that would provide additional exposure for both
of you, look to fund it on trade and split the cost. To get
started in building barter partnerships, analyze the type of
customers you service. What types of businesses are they in? What
companies are they doing business with? When you spot a significant
number of your customers coming from one industry or neighborhood,
consider teaming up with others from the exchange that might also
supply that target market.
Working together and sharing
marketing costs, as well as customers, is a winning barter
partnership for all.
