IRTA Convention Postponed and Rescheduled

The IRTA Global Executive Committee has decided to postpone the IRTA Convention, scheduled for September 19-23 in Denver. The loss experienced by IRTA's Hall of Fame honoree, Allan Hackel, in conjunction with the enormous magnitude of the recent terrorist attack, precludes that the 2001 Barter Congress be held at a later date...November 8-11...same venue.

NATE Regional Convention Canceled

The National Association of Trade Exchanges (NATE) has canceled the upcoming regional convention, "Barter By The Lake," which was scheduled in Akron, Ohio, October 4-6. John Sobolewski, Executive Director, says the focus will now be on the National Convention in New Orleans, May 16-18, 2002.

NATE Opens Fund

A fund has been established by NATE for victims of September 11th's atrocity, with a goal to raise $50,000 worth of trade dollars, which will go to any association member who has clients, friends, or family affected by the tragedy. NATE's office is (440) 835-3654.

United We Stand

Logan Darrow, Executive Producer of FreeNation TV, says Americans should all buy 100 shares of stock (in American companies) to show the anti-capitalism terrorists that their attack failed to destroy America.

Here And There. . .

The following are excerpts from e-mails received from trade exchanges and barter companies around the world:

We woke this morning to see the most horrific images of what has happened in your country, we are truly shocked at the severity of this ghastly attack on innocent human beings.

I wanted you to know that all staff at Trade Limited and all Australians thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time of tragedy.

Regards,
David Johnstone, Trade Limited, Bundall, Australia

I hope and pray we do not have any of our friends lost. I want to hear you are okay.

Sincerely,
Mustafa Uctu, Ihlas Barter, Istanbul, Turkey

We are all shocked about the unbelievable act of terror, and I have lost also three friends in one of the hijacked airplanes which has hit the World Trade Center. The terrorism of a small group has become another stage and direction. The world must work more efficiently against those fanatic people.

On behalf of IRTA Europe and Euro Barter Business, our deepest condolences to the families who are affected by this unbelievable act of terror and misanthropicism. Our prayers are with all of them and the people in America.

Reiner Husemann, EBB, Baden-Baden, Germany

This tragedy of catastrophic proportions has affected the world, not only are we saddened by the loss of life, the injury to innocent people, but we are devastated to think that a human being could carry out such an act. Our thoughts, love and emotions are with all the people and their families affected by this hideous crime.

The spirit of democracy and the Western World will now be stronger than ever,

Our thoughts are with you,
Michael Touma, Barter Business Exchange, Hornsby, Australia

The members of Thunder Bay's Northwest Trade Exchange offer our deepest sympathies to all of those affected by this recent act of terrorism. Where we can, we offer you our fullest co-operation to ease the troubles experienced.

Take care,

On behalf of Premier Barter Company of Lagos, Nigeria, I wish to express our condolences to all the people affected by yesterday's terrorist attacks in the U.S.

Dike Obih, Premier Barter Company, Lagos, Nigeria

My deepest condolence to friends and families who were affected by this act of cowardice and madness.

Lim Kean Beng, Barter Business Network, Penang, Malaysia

It's difficult to find something to say because the degree of this tragedy leaves us without words. On behalf of Barter de Argentina and all our country, I want to express my deepest condolences to all the people who were affected by this horrific event. This will change world history, and I really want to say that we're thinking of you all the time.

Cinthia Gawianski, Barter De Argentina, Buenos Aires, Argentina

I wish and pray for all, who have lived this horrible attack physically and emotionally, to recover as soon as possible. Hope this will be the last of terrorism and none of us will live this again.

Best wishes,
M. Sirri Simsek, Ihlas Barter, Istanbul, Turkey
