Theyre At It Again Are You Surprised?

Wow. The financial institutions are wooing borrowers again who might not be able to pay. Yes, credit-card issuers mailed 84.8 million offers of plastic to U.S. subprime borrowers in the first six months of this year. Thats almost double the 43.2 million sent a year earlier, estimates research firm Synovate.

Venture Capital Money Drying Up

Many trade exchange owners remember the year 2000 during the dot.com boom, and the venture capital money that was being thrown at owners during those heady days. For example, in just the second quarter of 2000 an astounding $33 billion was raised by the venture capital firms. In the recent 2010 second-quarter, U.S. venture capital funds raised just $1.9 billion, according to research firm Preqin.

IRTAs Opinion Letter To EU To Protect Barter Industry In Europe

On July 14, the International Reciprocal Trade Association (IRTA) together with IRTA-Europe submitted a two-page opinion letter to the European Union Commissioner for Market and Services to effectively protect the status of barter exchanges located within the European Union. The EU is presently considering regulations in a Financial Directive that if adopted could adversely affect barter exchanges there.

Therefore, IRTAs letter has requested that the European Union:

Exempt trade clearinghouses from any proposed regulations that may regulate financial clearinghouses.

Modify the proposed language to assure that it is not so broad as to include trade clearinghouses under any regulatory plan that is intended for financial clearinghouses.

As part of this message included below is the full text of the IRTA letter.

IRTA founder Paul Suplizio chaired the committee that created the letter; it was then approved unanimously by the IRTA Global Board of Directors and the members of IRTA-Europe. IRTA President David Wallach and IRTA-Europe Chairperson Dorottya Szabo signed the letter on behalf of the Modern Trade and Barter Industry.

For more information e-mail Ron Whitney at ron@irta.com or call (757) 393-2292.

Bea Lund, Former Corporate Trade Councils PR Pro, Dies Unexpectedly

Beatrice (Bea) Lund, President/CEO of The Lund Group in New Canaan (CT), died at age 64 from unexpected complications after an injury, suddenly and thoroughly unforeseen on July 13. Her long-time partner Mike Bruneau informed BarterNews of her passing.

She was the person who implemented the successful public relations campaign specific to the corporate barter industry. It was done at the behest of the Corporate Barter Council, a not-for-profit corporation registered in the state of New York, back in 1997 by a group of corporate barter companies.

Lund worked for many New York PR companies before starting her own firm in 1989. Areas she covered were extensive and included business-to-business, consumer products, environmental issues, gardening, professional service firms, publications and books.

$30,000 Tree Services For Truck, Exemplifies Barters Value & Versatility

The Connecticut Highway Department in Thomaston entered into a barter deal with a tree service company this month which we found interesting. It occurred as a result of budget cuts that grounded two highway department vehicles. And since the town was also facing a tree service problem, the highway departments leaders decided to trade one of their trucks valued at $8,000 (by a local motor company) to Higgins Tree Service company.

Higgins received the truck in exchange for providing 30 hours of work using a 75-foot bucket lift, chipper and two men, all for $200 an hour a $6,000 value. The trade will enable the town to take down 30 trees, which would normally be done at a cost of $1,000 a tree. So, as they say in barter parlance, this was a win-win trade.

Money-Making Reports Available From BarterNews

The Hunt For Capital Is Easier Through Your Trade Exchange

Depending upon your companys ability to earn trade dollars, when it comes time to search out additional capital for financing your companys growth, the fastest and easiest way to proceed is a visit to your member trade exchange.

Thats because the entrepreneurial owner of the exchange knows how easy (or difficult) it will be for your business to earn back trade dollars to pay back the loan from the exchange.

Its a given that every situation is different, and your desire for capital may be even greater than what the exchange can provide you. But, remember this, contacting them first is always a smart move. And the time and effort saved will impress you!
