Small Business Owners Have Ideas To Cut Federal Deficit
According
to a survey by the National Association for the
Self-Employed, small business owners say the government
should minimize social security for wealthy recipients and
increase the payroll-tax cap on wages in an effort to reduce
the federal deficit. And nearly 60% also chose repealing the
health care overhaul and cutting defense spending as a way
to cut costs.

Utah Legalizes Gold & Silver As Currency
The State
of Utah has legalized gold and silver as an alternative
currency, although shop keepers/retailers have the option of
accepting it or not. The state will exempt the coins
(typically considered an investment) from capital gains
taxes. There are other states considering similar laws
including North Carolina and Idaho.

NATE Holds 27th Annual Convention
The National Association of Trade Exchanges is holding its 27th
annual convention at the Phoenix Marriott Mesa Hotel in Phoenix,
where 20 trade exchanges are expected to attend on June 2 thru 5.
The convention, hosted by Arizona Trade Exchange, consists of
seminars for trade exchange owners, brokers and sales
representatives. Topics of discussion will include, but are not
limited to, the following: brokering in todays economy, how to
expand your business through marketing and PR, referrals, and
facilitating successful trade fairs.
Along with the seminars and discussion panels, convention attendees
have plenty of other fun to look forward to at this years
gathering. Many social events are planned as a way for the different
exchanges to get to know each other as well as learn what each
exchange has to offer in hard goods and travel. The Great NATE
Trade Out is planned once again, where exchanges will buy and sell
various products, services and travel offerings, in an event to
promote their exchange.
NATE will also provide CTB (Certified Trade Broker) training during
the convention for individuals seeking to advance their barter
broker skills and knowledge in the barter industry. The annual
awards ceremony will be held at F1 Race Factory, the largest indoor
go-kart facility in America.

Innovative Leaders Embrace 3 Fundamental Changes
1)
Get everyone involved. Change requires a new set of assumptions.
Realize that your greatest asset is in the minds of your employees,
suppliers, and customers.
Focus everyones ingenuity on solving business problems and creating
business opportunities. Then watch big changes happen.
2)
Unlock the power of business creativity. In a period of rapid change
it is necessary to drive beyond asking, What worked before?
Ask new questions, think new thoughts, and do new things. Humans use
about 10% to 12% of their brain power. Learn to unlock, nurture, and
reward the brains vast reserves.
Smart companies inspire their people, and hold them accountable to
use all their abilities to address the challenges faced as a
company.
3)
Focus your energy on what counts. Albert Einstein, no stranger to
fundamental change, once said: Try not to become a man of success,
but try to become a man of value.
In whatever you do, value is more important than success. You create
your future by adding value a new service, a unique strategic
alliance, or by becoming a profit center.

Advertising Specialties & Premiums Offer 4 Key Strengths
A variety of ad specialties and premiums are normally available
through your trade exchange at a nominal cost. Theyre an excellent
form of advertising because they offer a direct and personal touch
that extra dimension thats not available from any other marketing
tool.
Oftentimes, they are incorrectly considered one and the same. Here
is a short explanation on the difference.
Advertising specialties have these characteristics:
 Useful idea for office
or home, car or boat, for traveling, for fun and games, and usually
of nominal value.
 Brings a message,
usually very specific, as part of a total marketing program. It
includes the name and logo of the distributing company.
 Offered with no strings
attached. You receive it because of who you are,
and you dont have to do anything to get it.
Premiums, on the other hand, have these characteristics:
 Useful, and usually of a
higher quality and value.
 Comes with the product or
service being promoted. It offers a message, but its not part
of the premium itself.
 Comes with strings
attached. Such as: buy this product within the next ten days,
well give you this nice gift. It is a
bonus or premium for making a purchasing decision.
-
Specialty advertising and premiums offer four key strengths:
-
They target a specific audience.
-
They are an item of lasting value.
-
They can serve as a motivational tool.
-
They communicate a specific message.
Because specialties and premiums offer both long life and multiple
exposures (they hang around awhile and they get used repeatedly),
they rightly fit one of the key ingredients of a successful
marketing campaign. They reach the right audience and repeat the
message...again and again.
An effective and useful specialty or premium reminds your best
customers and most passionate prospects that you care, and want
their business.
Personal Bankruptcies Rising
For the 12 months ending March 31 personal bankruptcies rose 6.8%,
while business filings declined 11.3%. The per capita filings vary
widely among the states. The highest were in:

Nevada, 10.8 per 1,000

Georgia, 8.09

Tennessee, 7.76

California, 7.05

Indiana, 7.01
The fewest filings were in:

Alaska, 1.55

South Carolina, 1.97

Texas, 2.26

Vermont, 2.37

North Dakota, 2.40
Nationally, the bankruptcy trend is improving. The number of
quarterly filings has declined since they peaked at 412,380 in the
third quarter of 2010.
