Ideas The Currency Of Success

Ideas also separate you from your competition. So in todays capricious marketplace you should continually ask yourself:  What am I doing to incorporate barter the worlds most innovative business tool into my companys plans?

Coca Cola, Quite An Investment

One share of Coca Cola stock purchased for $40 in 1919 would be worth about $9.8 million today, with all dividends reinvested annually, the company recently reported. Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire, says Berkshire owns 200 million shares of Coke ($74 a share) and has never sold a single share.

Student Loans Approaching $1 Trillion

Outstanding student loans keep growing and the Federal Reserve of New York projects that there are 37 million Americans 15% of the population actively paying off this student debt. Approximately two-thirds of student loans are held by people under 30.

Women More Goal Oriented Than Men

(About 44% of women age 18 to 24 were enrolled in college or a graduate program in October 2010, compared with 38% of men the same age.)

Empty Space Traded By Hoteliers For Valuable P.R.

Given todays economic condition, we can look for more smart business managers to take a page from Thomas McCarthy. After spending three years in hotel marketing with Hilton, Marriott, and his own hotel marketing/consulting company, McCarthy (writing in an issue of Hotel & Resort Industry magazine) offered the following advice:

Take a cue from the experienced general manager of the major hotels in your market, as most of them are particularly aware of the organizations within the community (civic, service, religious, political, fraternal, business and professional) that influence public opinion in a meaningful way. They know that being a contributing member of a community organization certainly helps to build the image of the hotel as a good neighbor, and also results in many leads for substantial business.

McCarthy says that smart hoteliers trade their empty space for valuable public relations by providing otherwise vacant meeting rooms as freebies for committee meetings, donating suites and meals as door prizes for special events, and giving help and accommodations that cost the hotel little or nothing.

For example, one hotel offered their lobby as the exclusive drop-off point for a Toys for Tots charity. In return, they were mentioned in connection with the worthwhile charity from ten to thirty times each day on three radio stations for a 2-week period! Obviously, this exchange benefited the hotel.

Is Boredom Cramping Your Style?

People who are chronically bored are missing out on a lot of opportunities. Can you improve your job or job performance? Is it time to consider a different job? Or do you need to concentrate more on how your job effects others and less on the paycheck?

When you cant change your job to eliminate the boredom, you have to change your state of mind. Give your brain some new challenges, even if they arent work-related.

Changing the way you spend some of the time can cause a domino effect on the rest of your time. Try these pointers:

Do something that will make you smile. Go to a movie, a sports event, out with friends or to the mall. Buy yourself a little gift or a surprise for someone else.

Read something unique. Pick a book by an author youve never read, or an article that will stimulate your imagination.

Get some exercise. Physical activity will get your blood pumping and stimulate endorphin production, making you feel energetic and happier.

Take a break or even a little snooze. This may be difficult for some, but closing your eyes and drifting off for just five to ten minutes will leave you feeling refreshed.

Explore your surroundings. Dont ignore the sights on your way to work, or even at work. Pay attention to all you see. Not only looking for something different and original, but admiring the beauty you havent noticed before.

Rearrange your space. Sometimes shifting things around at home or at work can force you to look at your surroundings, and your life, in a new light.

Volunteer. Helping others is a terrific antidote to the boredom blahs. Doing good things makes you feel good.

Change your routine. Take a different route to work. Start the day with something new, instead of the usual to do list. Shake up your day, and interesting things may come your way.
