People Moving Toward
Frugality
With nearly $13 trillion of wealth lost in this recession, a
shaken confidence in the capitalist system is prompting a
more powerful move toward frugality. Ravi Dhar, director of
Yales Center for Customer Insights, says the longer this
recession lasts the more it will have an impact on peoples
long-term behavior.
Additionally, according to Dhar, getting credit is likely to
be tougher for many consumers in the next decade than it was
during the subprime-lending boom.

Open Letter From IRTA
Executive Director Ron Whitney
Subject: IRS Web Site
Barter Section Updates
Dear Modern Trade and Barter Industry Member:
The
International Reciprocal Trade Association has been working with the
IRS to update their
www.irs.gov web site sections that pertain to the barter
industry. As a result, many new and positive changes have been made
to these sections.
In
an effort to improve the overall education level, and to minimize
non-compliance matters related to barter tax reporting, the IRS
has requested IRTA to ask barter exchange owners to put the new IRS
web site sections concerning barter on their individual web sites.
The first set of web site links listed below is titled
Links for Exchange Members. We suggest you post all four of
these links on your web site since they provide helpful IRS barter
information for your exchange members and/or prospects
A
second grouping titled Links Exchange Owners Need to Understand
are links containing important information that as exchange owners
you need to be aware of, but do not need to be posted on your web
site since they apply specifically to exchange owners IRS reporting
requirements.
We suggest that you cooperate with the IRSs recommendation and post
the Links for Exchange Members on your web site. By doing so you
will be increasing the knowledge level of your members regarding IRS
barter reporting, while also positioning your exchange as a credible
authority on IRS barter issues. We also trust you will find the
Links Exchange Owners Need to Understand helpful and
enlightening.
Thank you for your time and attention.

Attention Trade Exchange Owners. . .Its GROW OR GO!
The magic bullet for growth is sales, always has been and always
will be...yet the industrys overall growth is anemic. Why? Maybe
its because were not providing on-going education about our unique
way of doing business. Knowledge is always a pre-requisite to taking
sustained action.
And for those newcomers, the lifeblood of an exchange, awareness of
and understanding about the value of trading is even more important.
If you expect prospects to come aboard and your members to be more
active traders, but you are perplexed when the results are less than
you desire...theres a good reason. You must continually educate
and motivate every month--month after month after month!
Such action is necessary because, lets face it, more cash business,
not trade, is of paramount importance to your members. You must
break through this cash only focus and redirect their thinking
toward barter. Although most exchanges dont see the importance of
doing so, many industry leaders are taking action and so can you.
As the owner of your own operation, there is an easy and
inexpensive solution for moving forward...look
into using The Competitive Edge newsletter. Its a
camera-ready, 4-page, professionally written, informational
marketing tool...available in PDF format as well as print. So
regardless of how you reach your prospects and clients, you will
have the necessary vehicle.
Written especially for you, the busy trade exchange owner, I am
certain it will be the best investment you ever make.

Businesses Save Cash,
Attract Customers Thru Idearc Medias National Trade Network
Local businesses across the country will be recession-busting by
exchanging goods and services, gaining value from excess capacity or
inventory, and attracting new customers through Dallas-based Idearc
Media LLCs (IDARQ.PK) SuperTradeExchange.
The
SuperTradeExchange program, available for Idearc Media clients,
works like a barter system, but instead of trading one-to-one,
network members can trade their excess inventory or capacity for
SuperBucks. These can then be used to purchase products and services
from any other member in SuperTradeExchange (STE).
In
March, Idearc Media introduced SuperTradeExchange and by the second
quarter of 2009 it will be in major cities including Boston, New
York, Los Angeles and Tampa. Idearc Media expects STE to become the
largest national marketplace for cashless business transactions by
2010.
The SuperTradeExchange program is another weapon we are providing
to our clients in our continuing war on the recession, said Scott
W. Klein, CEO of Idearc, Inc. Programs like SuperTradeExchange and
our SuperGuarantee, where we stand behind the work of our clients
who are service providers, helps small- to medium-sized businesses
not only survive but thrive in a down economy.
Idearc Medias STE platform is powered by ITEX Corporation (OTCBB:ITEX),
a proven leader in developing and managing a successful cashless
business transaction platform. Through this exclusive relationship,
participating Idearc Media clients can immediately trade with more
than 24,000 businesses that are current network businesses.
How
SuperTradeExchange works:
Bob, a contractor, does a job for another member that earns him $350
in SuperBucks. Bob can then use (some or all of) his $350 in
SuperBucks to purchase products or services through any other member
of STE, like a florist, printer, hotel or retailer. This system
allows Idearc Media clients to save cash to pay for other things,
like rent, utilities or taxes things not available through the
STE.
The modern trade and barter industry provides businesses with the
capability to monetize their excess capacity which creates new
purchasing power and improves bottom line profits, said David
Wallach, president of the International Reciprocal Trade
Association. Modern trade and barter will continue to be a
significant contributor to economic recovery, by supplying
businesses with new-found capital that leads to job creation,
increased productivity and consumption.

$75 Million In
Advertising Offered To Caribbean Hotels In Barter
A program for the exchange of advertising services for hotels and
companies of the Dominican Republic and Caribbean media in United
States, Canada, Europe and international airports around the world,
was presented by the Center for Information and Communication (CICOM)
and Canadian-based The Media Group (TMG).
TMG
and CICOM announced a strategic alliance with an advertising offer
to make $75 million (USD) available in exchange for businesses based
in the Caribbean, including the main electronic media (TV, radio),
newspapers, magazines, online, mobile phones and the like, and a
further $40 million on advertising billboards in 207 global markets.
Our facilities are aimed at advertising hotels, recreational
facilities, real estate, restaurants, sports facilities (golf),
marinas, hotels, tourism associations, and governments of the
countries where these facilities are located, asserted Cesar Heal,
CICOM senior manager, responsible for the project.
Manuel Canales of TMG noted that the companies concerned have access
to the inventory of media and other facilities under the program and
choose those that are of interest to place advertising.
Our specialty, Canales said, is to provide an alternative to
significant cash disbursements, which is to trade hotel-rooms for
appropriate promotion to customer needs. After receiving the data
from the target market details of the customer, our company develops
a marketing and media plan based on demographic and economic
provision to be invested by the company concerned.
This exchange program, for advertising services, allows hotels to
use part of its inventory of unsold rooms for advertising in the
markets of their interest without making the huge outlays of money
required by traditional advertising. Governments may also
participate by making arrangements with hotels to provide a program
and include some forms of institutional advertising.
For
instance, the hotels in Puerto Plata and Saman could contribute
$500 thousand dollars in hotel-rooms, and the government can
contribute a similar cash sum for an advertising program in the
United States or Canada for Puerto Plata and Saman.
In
response to the needs of Dominican Republic and the Caribbean, CICOM
wanted to stay at the forefront in supporting the development of
tourism as a strategic alliance with a company to market advertising
exchange room, which is a tool that facilitates and lowers
investment promotion, said Manuel Cedeo Quiteria, president of
CICOM.
