Lack Of Sales Biggest Problem For Small Business Owners

A survey by the trade group National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), found that 51% of small-business owners reported a lack of sales as their greatest challenge. Only 8% cited a lack of loans.

In addition, the NFIB found that the drop in home prices has made it harder for many small-business owners to qualify for loans because they can no longer pledge their homes as collateral.

The fundamental nature of the problems lack of sales, lack of assets underscores the difficulty in jump-starting small-business growth while the broader economy continues to struggle.

William J. Dennis Jr., the NFIB senior research fellow who headed the survey, said recent administration proposals, including $30 billion in new federal aid for community banks, were not likely to help. But he also said the NFIB was at a rare loss for ideas on what the government should do instead.

We're really in a quandary right now, Dennis said.

Editors note: Its time for entrepreneurs to take immediate action locally to gain more customers. Advisedly they should be contacting a local trade exchange to learn how they can quickly generate additional business and greater sales.

Online Barter Exchange Included In Nationwide LGBT Cancer Outreach

A series of Reach for the Stars events drawing celebrities, local business leaders and residents will mark the launch of a nationwide cancer outreach to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) community, while also celebrating the Grand Re-Opening of the landmark Sunset Vine Tower in Hollywood. It will begin with two full days of OSCARS Week Celebrity Gifting Suites on March 5 and 6, followed by the evening fund-raiser on Wednesday, March 10, 2010.

Reach for the Stars will be the launch of a nationwide outreach program supporting LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF), by Metropolitan Community Charities and the NYC-based National LGBT Cancer Network, which will also be establishing their Southern California HUB.

With the goal of uniting an inclusive group of civic and business leaders in support of LGBT people affected by cancer and to raise awareness about LGBT cancer issues, the three new get-a-vision programs to be launched will provide direct financial assistance to LGBT cancer patients, facilitate local volunteer support for those affected by cancer, and provide work opportunities for those in recovery whore attempting to re-enter the workforce.

Coupled with the National LGBT Cancer Network training and consultation to providers, the get-a-vision programs will provide three critical components to LGBT cancer patient survival and a thriving recovery:

1)    Finances: Direct financial assistance through microfunding and debit card distribution;

2)    Community: Volunteer networking and coordination to support LGBT cancer patients through a Time Banking system; and

3)    Recovery: Practical steps to re-enter the working world through an online barter exchange. (VirtualBarter.com is providing the platform services.)

Getting an idea should be like sitting on a pin, it should make you jump up and do something.

Kemmons Wilson, developer of Holiday Inns

Kemmons Wilson has always had a sense of urgency wanting to jump up and do something. To save time hed often eat dessert first, while waiting for his entree!

In developing the Holiday Inns, the first chain of affordable, family-oriented motels and hotels he used barter every step of the way.

First, he contacted builders and bartered with them, offering 50% ownership in any hotel theyd build. Next, he contacted owners of land that were located within one days drive of his hotel sites. He would again use his barter bargaining chip a stake in the hotel in exchange for the land.

When Wilson retired in 1979, over 1,800 Holiday Inns had been built in 50 countries around the world. In addition to his sense of urgency, and frequent use of barter, he attributed his success to attitude emphasizing that its important to smile and be happy.

And always remember, Wilson exclaimed in his autobiography Half Luck and Half Brains, no job is too hard as long as you are smart enough to find someone else to do it for you.
