Barter Deal Provides Graffiti Artist Enormous
Riches
David Choe, a graffiti artist, was hired to paint murals on
the walls of Facebooks Palo Alto office in 2005; instead of
taking cash as a payment he accepted several hundred stock
options. Due to Facebooks coming IPO, those options when
converted into shares could be worth more than $200 million,
according to news reports.
Gallup Poll Finds 72% of Adults Worry About
Worsening Economy
A recent Gallup poll showed that 72% of those surveyed
(1,011 adults), fear the economy will get worse rather than
better in the coming year. Some 57% worry they will outlive
their money after they retire. And 51% believe the value of
their homes will not increase. Gallup said American worries
are at the highest levels in 20 years.

Advertising Money
Some 52% of small-business owners contend they would
advertise if they had the money, according to a Staples led
survey. Now Staples is taking action by offering five
$50,000 awards in local TV advertising. Small-businesses can
enter to win the contest by submitting a 15-second video
about their company on
facebook.com/staples.

The Future Is Unknowable
 So Plan Accordingly!
A
Gallup poll showed that nearly 25% of people in their 50s and 60s
(those closest to retirement) are now considering pushing back their
retirement. Why the change?
The
answer is that the nations economic uncertainty will lead to a less
comfortable retirement than theyd originally planned. And for good
reason people are living longer and will consistently need more
and more money for their later years.
Which is why every business owner should be seriously working with
their trade exchange broker, with the express purpose of looking to
replace ongoing cash purchases with trade purchases. That extra cash
saved can then be pushed into your retirement portfolio.

What Motivates Your
Entrepreneurial Spirit?
Of
the 26 million American small business owners, more and more appear
to be motivated by lifestyle rather than money. Thats the finding
of John Warrillow, president of a Toronto-based research company
specializing in the small business market.
Lifestyle entrepreneurs are identified in three ways ... if you see
yourself as a mountain climber, youre driven to increase sales, and
you achieve outstanding business success. According to Warrillow,
you represent just 2% of the small business owners.
Whereas 24% of you see yourselves as freedom fighters seeking mainly
independence and the opportunity to work when you want, where you
want, and for whom you want. (These owners would include parents who
want to work from their home.)
Finally, 74% are identified as a craftsperson. These business owners
want to do a particular type of work, and do it well.
Interestingly, Warrillows findings parallel a 1998 Louis Harris &
Associates survey that showed nine-out-of-ten entrepreneurs were
prompted by the desire for independence.
What Three Things Are
The Hardest In The World?
Those hard items are diamonds, steel, and knowing oneself. Our focus
is going to be on the third one, by offering three steps for getting
started on the road to self-awareness:

Write down
a positive statement about yourselfwho you are and the positive
things that stand out most about you.

Put into
writing the three goals youd most like to achieve the next six
months, the next three years, and the next ten years.

Measure
it. Briefly and specifically write down how you will know when
youve achieved your goals.
